Wasps Nest in Liverpool and Wirral has seen a brisk start in 2010 which is unexpected given the relatively cold (weather of this last winter|winter of 2009/10}.

Pest Controllers were kept working with the usual town centre rodent calls all thoughout the winter of course, but the relatively cold early spring has already seen some ant infestations reported.

The wet summers of 2008 and 2009 were not to the liking of the hymenoptera (wasps, bees and ants) but 2010 looks like being a active year for ant callouts.

Often ants build nests under the floors of buildings and inside cavity walls causing an army of foraging ants to invade food store areas.

However it is at the annual mating time when they are at their most troublesome as they release winged males and queens which then fly off to mate.

The appearance of thousands of these winged ants inside homes can be horrific indeed.

A relatively new pest was especially numerous in the Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire area last year, the Varied Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci).

It was unusual for pest operatives in Lancashire, Manchester and Cheshire to encounter these pests until recently but they seemed to appear from nowhere in recent years and already this season has seen reports of these beetles in large numbers.

These insects have a similar life cycle to moths their larvae, known as woolly bears can eat natural fibres and can do great damage to carpets and all fabrics. They are a difficult and tricky pest to remove.

Those who work in in Wasps Nest note that Bed Bugs are carrying on their renaissance in the Cheshire, Lancashire and Manchester area, often arriving as stowaways in the suitcases of returning travellers.

Often the initial reaction of unlucky people who realise that they have been infested with these horrific,blood-sucking creatures is to burn the infested beds and get.

This is often an unneccesary mistake as despite their name bed bugs not only stay in beds and in an infested room will be found everywhere within up to fifteen feet of the bed, in cupboards, drawers etc, even in electrical wall sockets and the new beds become quickly re-infested.

Many people mix up bed bugs with dust mites which are not visible to the naked eye. They both need a different type of Wasps Nest.

They dine exclusively on blood which they syphon from their sleeping victims. People usually associate bed bugs with insanitary conditions but nothing could be further from the truth, they do not need grime, their food is your blood!

Up to the end of April 2010 Trafford & Gatley Wasps Nest are offering a 25% reduction on their guaranteed ant treatment.

The revolutionary treatment which is guaranteed for three years, extendable indefinitely in further three year chunks by a low cost re-treatment every three years, can be carried out in most houses subject to satisfactory free site survey
