The country’s most respected diamond grading lab, the Gemological Institute of America or GIA, has planned on moving its grading lab in New York City to the new International Gem Tower, a building created for the purpose of housing businesses involved in the diamond and jewelry trade. If construction, being done by Extell Development, goes according to plan, the building should open for business sometime in 2012. The location will be in the heart of the NYC diamond district on West 47th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue.

The GIA has promised to buy one floor in the building, approximately 30,000 square feet of space to house its staff and equipment efficiently and be able to continue its mission to serve the wholesale diamonds and jewelry industry.
